Harmonix has announced the Wii version of Rock Band 2 will be released in the US on December 18th, and apologised to its community for the delay in the process.

A member of the development team posted the news on the official forums, saying: “We want to apologise for the delay in getting Rock Band 2 onto the Wii and to reaffirm that we believe that Wii is an amazing and unique fit for Rock Band 2, and one that we care deeply about getting right.”

He commended Harmonix’s partners at Pi Studios in Houston for its efforts bringing the game to Wii, claiming it “literally worked through a hurricane to bring this game in before the holidays.

“Going forward, it is our ambition to release future games on Wii simultaneously with releases on the other platforms.”

The studio went on to confirm the game is compatible with the existing instrument controllers available for Wii and will be supported by “a DLC catalogue that will be growing exponentially after launch”.

Rock Band 2 was previously released for Xbox 360 and PS3 on September 14th, with the Wii version now following two months later. The game is currently exclusive to Xbox 360 in Europe.
