The debut trailer for GTA V has landed today, and true to form it is drenched in the tone and style of the upcoming installment, yet deliberately teases fans with potential features.
The setting will be Los Santos (although just how large the world might be beyond that is unknown), during a huge economic downturn. The era looks modern and the character providing the voiceover is lamenting a fatherhood fantasy which looks to be at least a large part of Rockstar's latest version of a shattered American dream, and one they've yet to touch on in the GTA series.
Wide, open streets, stunning vistas, inviting beaches and dingy freeway underpasses are all present in the world of GTA V. Fans are left to ogle at planes, blimps and a jetski for a flavour of the gameplay features to come.
Multiple characters are given hero status in the trailer, with distinct individuals driving vehicles front and centre at different times, lending credence to the possibility of multiple controllable characters, and a logical next step after the intertwined narrative of GTA IV and its episodes.
Motionscan, the facial scanning technology from L.A. Noire is definitely out, and the game appears to be running on Rockstar North's own engine, either RAGE or an advanced version of it.
