Rovio to launch Angry Birds microtransactions

Rovio Mobile has announced it will launch its own in-app microtransactions system.

The service will be named Bad Piggy Bank –after the Angry Birds’ arch enemies, of course – will use mobile carrier billing to let consumers pay for extra content in Rovio apps, such as the Mighty Eagle power-up.

Mobile users who have downloaded the free ad-supported version of Angry Birds will be able to pay to remove the ads.

Bad Piggy Bank will first launch in Rovio’s home market of Finland, through a deal with local operator Elisa. Rovio plans to roll out the system to other carriers and mobile operating systems around the world next year.
