Samsung developing virtual reality headset – report

Galaxy mobile device maker Samsung is apparently working on its own VR headset, with the company reportedly aiming to beat both Oculus Rift and Sony’s Project Morpheus to market.

Engadget reports Samsung is pushing to announce the headset in 2014, in route to the firm’s ultimate goal of having the first mass marketed device in the VR space.

According to the report, Samsung’s VR headset will require new Galaxy phones and tablets that have yet to be announced. Developers have already been given early versions of the tech, working with it on the latest released generations of Galaxy hardware.

Sources also stress that the headset is being crafted as a gaming peripheral first and foremost, adding that Samsung is gunning for a price point below both Rift and Morpheus.
