A SCEE statement added: “It is likely that some of the these units may have been on sale after this date. No other PlayStation 2 units are affected.”
Consumers who believe they may own an affected unit are advised to visit www.ps2ac.com, where a replacement adaptor can be arranged free of charge. A helpline number will be issued on Wednesday (14/9) via notices in the national press.
“As a precautionary measure, and until a replacement is provided, SCEE advises consumers owning one of the AC adaptors affected to unplug the PlayStation 2 from the mains power supply and discontinue use until a replacement is provided,” the statement continued.
In February of this year Microsoft ordered the voluntary recall of power cables for 14.1 million Xbox consoles worldwide, for similar reasons.
