Sega nets His Dark Materials franchise

The multi-million selling book series is being given the film treatment by New Line, with a $150 million flick based on the first novel, The Golden Compass, hitting screens in November next year. It is set to star Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig.

"We are excited to be partnering with New Line to bring the dark and fantastic story of the His Dark Materials trilogy to the video game audience,” said Simon Jeffery, president and COO of Sega America. "The Golden Compass is a perfect match for the video game medium with compelling characters engaged in a heroic conflict between good and evil in an incredible and rich fantasy world.”

New Line’s senior executive VP of worldwide licensing and merchandising David Imhoff added: “For New Line's biggest film since The Lord of the Rings, we knew we wanted an interactive partner that had the talent, the scope and the reach to deliver triple-A video games to the four corners of the globe. For The Golden Compass, that company is Sega.”
