Sega Sammy profits on the up

Net income for the period reached $323.2 million, up from the $216.6 million in the same period last year. Net sales rose by 14 per cent from $2.1 billion to $2.4 billion.

Though the firm credited much of the success to sales in its arcade business, software sales also climbed, with Sega shipping 5.8 million software units compared to 1.3 million in the same period last year.

The US was the most profitable region, accounting for 2.4 million sales. Japan followed with 1.8 million unit sales whilst Europe was close behind with 1.6 million. Super Monkey Ball Adventure and Phantasy Star Universe were hailed as two of its biggest successes.

Despite the results, however, Sega has decreased its full-year net profit forecast from $637.8 million to $510 million.
