Shiny sale ends Atari selling spree

Shiny rose to notability in the 16-bit era when it developed classic platform title Earthworm Jim. However, as part of the deal Atari has retained that property and the continuing development of the PSP version.

Others titles in Shiny’s stable include Enter the Matrix and Matrix: The Path of Neo.

Atari’s president and CEO David Pierce stated: “The sale of Shiny Entertainment completes the final phase of our strategic restructuring. We now have a centralised organisation that can utilise external studio execution while maintaining internal focus on creative development and production.”

Foundation 9 has acquired all of Shiny’s non-game assets under the terms of the agreement. The studio’s staff will remain intact and join forces with Foundation 9 outfit The Collective.

Other studios under Foundation 9’s banner include Backbone Entertainment, Pipeworks, ImaginEngine and Digital Eclipse.
