SimCity makes digital-only move to Mac on June 11th

The Mac version of EA’s SimCity will be released on June 11st, the publisher has confirmed.

It will only be released digitally, although those who buy it will also get the PC version for free, and vice versa, with synchronised play across both platforms.

Current PC owners will be able to download the Mac version for free upon release.

We didn’t want to make any compromises when it came to the Mac so we created a native version that is optimized for the hardware and OSX,” explained Maxis GM and senior VP Lucy Bradshaw.

Bradshaw will certainly be hoping that there’s no repeat of the horrendous tech problems that dogged the game’s arrival on PC. Indeed, the studio is still in the process of patching the title to address the numerous bugs and quirks that have been readily identified by the internet in the weeks since release.

To date SimCity has sold 1.3m units.

Only last week those who had pre-ordered the game on Ubisoft’s uPlay service were refunded after Ubisoft admitted it could not confirm a release date.
