Sims 3 confirmed for consoles

If there’s one question MCV gets asked more than any other it’s this: when will The Sims 3 come out on consoles? Well, today we finally have the answer.

EA has at last confirmed what it hinted at almost two years ago – The Sims 3 is currently in development for Xbox 360, PS3, Wii and DS, and it’s due out this autumn.

The game has already enjoyed huge success on PC and Mac, selling 1.4m copies in its first seven days on the market and becoming EA’s biggest ever PC launch in the process.

The console version will boast a number of specific features including ‘Karma Powers’ that allow gamers to bestow time-limited perks to their virtual playthings. Examples include ‘get lucky’, ‘instant beauty’ and ‘epic fail’.

The Xbox 360 and PS3 versions will boast high levels of online functionality, allowing gamers to share their creations and download content created by fellow players. Both will also boast Facebook connectivity.

The Wii iteration includes the exclusive beach town location as well the new multiplayer mode ‘Life Moments’. The DS version is notable for the increased level of customisation available, with players able to design their own textures for floors, walls and objects

“We're bringing players the best console and handheld game for The Sims franchise to date and are excited to offer a unique experience for all types of gamers on their platform of choice,” EA’s executive producer Sam Player stated.

“Building on the unique traits system, living open neighbourhood, lifetime wishes, and endless customization options, we've tailored each platform of The Sims 3 with exclusive features to allow for even more control, creativity, and connectivity.”

The Sims Studio general manager Scott Evans added: “The Sims series continues to be one of the most successful videogames of all time by providing universally appealing content and focusing on the player's imagination, emergent gameplay mechanics, and the innate humour evident in the virtual world of The Sims.

“We're building on this foundation and applying new features that will make for a robust, deep and rewarding gameplay experience.”
