The Gullstikka awards 2012

Gullstikka, the awards show hosted by Norwegian distributors and publishers (NSM), celebrated the Norwegian games industry this evening, handing out awards to local and international games their developers.

It came as no surprise that Bethesda's The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim ended up as the night's big winner, grabbing four prizes including best game, best PC game, best console game and best adventure/RPG.

Valve's Portal 2 ended up with two prizes: best platform game and the critics award, chosen by Norwegian game journalists.

Other winners included FIFA 12 as best sports game, Forza Motorsport 4 as best racing game, Mario Kart 7 as best handheld game and Battlefield 3 as the best action game. Swedish game Minecraft received an award for best downloadable game.

Gullstikka also celebrated its ninth consecutive year as the official games award show in Norway, having gone through various iterations during it’s lifetime.

While the winners in the early shows were picked by a jury consisting of retailers and journalists, online voting among readers of selected news and gaming sites have been the preferred method the last four years.

New this year was the inclusion of several new categories for Norwegian games and developers. Best Norwegian game was awarded to Artplants browserbased MMORPG Battlestar Galactica Online.

A seperate expert jury also handed out awards to Snow Castle Interactive for best new game developer, Artplant as best developer, and Snow Castle Interactive’s game Hogworld: Gnart’s Adventure won a best artistic achievement award.
