Software Sales Monitor: Market generates £12.1m

The UK games retail market remained steady with 12.1m generated from video game sales – the same as the week prior.

Unit sales rose marginally with 571,229 games sold. But with little new releases on the shelves, there wasn’t enough to give the market a much-needed kick.

EA’s FIFA 12 took the No.1 spot for the sixth consecutive week, while Activision’s Modern Warfare 3 took second place and Bethesda’s Skyrim fell to No.3. New EA release The Sims 3: Master Suite Stuff debuted at No.23.

Capcom’s Resident Evil Revelations hit shelves last week on Nintendo 3DS. It was the sixth best-selling game and the top-selling 3DS?title of the week.

At last there are plenty of big new releases arriving in stores today (Friday, February 3rd). These include Konami’s Metal Gear Solid HD Collection, Namco Bandai’s Soul Calibur V, Square Enix’s Final Fantasy XIII-2 and Catherine from Deep Silver.
