Some Amazon customers received their Grand Theft Auto V copies on Saturday

Many UK retailers were seething over the weekend when some customers who had pre-ordered Grand Theft Auto V from Amazon received their copies.

As reported earlier this month, Rockstar had previously requested that online retailers delay posting off the game until today (Monday September 16th) in the hope that it could prevent leaks of what is a highly anticipated title.

Other retailers told MCV that they had signed what were described as incredibly strict” agreements with Rockstar that demanded copies stay firmly under lock and key until midnight tonight.

So even when some Amazon customers received ‘dispatched’ notices from the retailer on Friday, it was still not expected that the game would arrive before this week.

However, several customers did indeed receive the game on Saturday. Add to that the early selling of it in Spain and sporadic reports of some indie retailers selling the game early under-the-counter on Friday and Saturday and the internet is awash with spoilers for those keen to get an early look.

It should also be noted that plenty of Amazon pre-orders did not arrive on Saturday. Indeed, many consumers have taken to the internet to express their grievance that while some spent the weekend playing the game, their orders were still processing.

MCV has contacted both Rockstar and Amazon for comment.
