Sonic the Hedgehog to star in ‘new media annual’

Pedigree Books has penned a deal to add Sega’s Sonic the Hedgehog to its selection of 2013 annuals.

The company’s Gaming and New Media range also includes IPs such as Angry Birds, Angry Birds Star Wars and Cut the Rope. These offerings all include what Pedigree describes as free added value Augmented Reality (AR) technology” – basically, owners can access additional content via a free smartphone and tablet app.

We’re very excited to be joining forces with Pedigree to launch the first Sonic annual, featuring lots of fun activities as well as engaging interactive content,” Sega Europe’s head of brand licensing Sissel Henno stated.

I’m confident that the books will be a big hit with our fan base and look forward to seeing it out in the market.”

Pedigree’s publishing and sales director Matthew Reynolds added: Sonic the Hedgehog is a legendary videogame brand so is a perfect addition to our Gaming and New Media titles.

Like the other Super Interactive Annuals in the range it will boast the hugely exciting AR feature, which is offering kids something completely different and really enhances the value of each Annual. This is another first for Annuals that Pedigree are delighted to bring to the category.”
