Sony begins PS3 game manufacturing in India

Sony has finally begun manufacturing PS3 games in India, with the first lot of locally manufactured games set to hit stores by the end of the month.

Initially, local manufacturing will be focussed on Sony’s first-party PS3 Essentials range. The first games to arrive in stores will be Killzone 3, Resistance 3, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, and God of War Collections 1 and 2.

Those will be followed by God of War 3 and Heavy Rain Move Edition, which will arrive next month.

These Essentials titles will be priced at Rs 999, down from Sony’s earlier Rs 1,199 pricing.

Sony also plans to locally manufacture new first-party games going forward and has confirmed that The Last of Us will be manufactured in India. Pricing for new games is yet to be decided, but we’re hopeful that Sony will at least drop back to Rs 2,499 from its current Rs 2,999 pricing for new triple-A releases.

Local replication is so far only limited to first-party games, but Sony is in talks with various third-party publishers as well.
