Sony clarifies SCE restructure

Following the confusion yesterday surrounding the future of the Sony Computer Entertainment brand, the electronics giant has looked to clarify the implications of its upcoming restructure.

In a complicated set of manoeuvres, the current SCE will indeed change its trading name to SNE Platform (Sony Networked Entertainment), or SNEP.

However, many of the new subsidiary’s business arms (such as games hardware, games software, planning and development) will be transferred to a brand new subsidiary named – yes, you guessed it – Sony Computer Entertainment.

This means that current regional divisions such as SCE UK, SCEE and SCEA will not be affected.

The purpose of the restructure is to efficiently operate and further strengthen Sony’s business through integration of some portions of the network services business of Sony and Sony Computer Entertainment”.

The changes are scheduled to be complete by April 1st.

The current incarnation of SNEP, which at the time of writing is an independent company, will be dissolved leaving it a fully absorbed subsidiary of Sony. There will be no physical changes to SNEP’s current offices or staff number. The changes are not expected to impact Sony’s financial forecasts of structuring.
