Insomniac’s FPS is Sony’s first All Formats Number One since charming PS2 adventure Shadow of the Colossus just over a year ago.
Sony also claims second spot in the charts with Evolution Studios’ MotorStorm, though Codemasters steps in to prevent a Sony one-two-three with its Brian Lara International Cricket 2007.
Sega’s multi-format Virtua Tennis 3 debuts in fourth position, whilst the PS3 release of Activision’s Call of Duty 3 sees the FPS climb 15 places to number five.
Last week’s number one Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories slips to sixth spot, one place ahead of another Sony debutant, Formula 1: Championship Edition.
THQ’s long awaited PC shooter S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl enters the charts in eighth place, one ahead of EA’s Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07. Ubisoft’s Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter 2 rounds off the top ten after slipping eight spots.
Elsewhere in the charts, PS3 exclusives Ridge Racer 7, Virtua Fighter 5 and Genji: Days of the Blade enter the listings in 11th, 14th and 16th respectively.
Other debutants include EA duo Def Jam: Icon and UEFA Champions League 2006-2007 in 12th and 16th respectively whilst Ubisoft’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles enters the charts in 19th.
