The recent 3.41 firmware update for the PS3 is not behind some reported problems some owners are claiming to have when trying to upgrade the hard drive in their consoles, Sony has said.
Several users on the US PlayStation forums had reported issues when trying to download the 3.41 software on a non-Sony HDD. However, Sony says the two are not related.
We apologise for any inconvenience you are experiencing with upgrading internal HDD on your PS3,” it told Examiner. The information available to our Consumer Services Department does not suggest that this is a problem PlayStation owners are likely to experience when upgrading the HDD with 3.41 update.
SCEA strongly supports the quality of its products and backs them with full confidence. We ask that you update the previous HDD first to see if the update will go through. Then update from the thumb drive that is formatted in FAT 32 and has the 3.41 update downloaded.”
It’s always worth remembering that any upgrade to any piece of consumer tech is always followed by cries of foul play. Electronic equipment breaks all the time. Sometimes that will happen after an update, but that doesn’t mean the two are related.
As tech crises go, this rates pretty badly. For something a bit juicer catch up on Apple’s ‘antennagate’ or even Sony’s PS3 internal clock bug. Alternatively go old school and head back to the days of RROD.
