Sony extends Welcome Back offer

PS3 platform holder Sony has extended its Welcome Back offer for PS3 owners.

The scheme was designed to compensate customers for the widely publicised shut down of PSN and offered a host of free content – chief of which was free games for PS3 and PSP.

However, many users reported their irritation after Welcome Back was terminated in the early hours of yesterday. Though Sony had previously confirmed July 3rd as being the final day of the offer, many had presumed that midnight would be the cut off point.

“There were 30 days to claim it, not sure why people decided to wait," SCEA's senior social media manager Jeff Rubenstein said on Twitter. "We were clear from the outset.”

However, as the online groans of discontent escalated the US PlayStation Twitter feed revealed an small extension.

"The Welcome Back program has been extended until 9am Pacific on Tuesday July 5th."
