‘Sony iTunes’ coming early 2010

Sony Computer Entertainment chairman Kaz Hirai has revealed the firm has pencllled in an early 2010 launch date for its new iTunes-rivalling online service.

As reported by MCV yesterday, Sony Online Service will offer consumers digital movies, music, games, books and more through a range of devices – including PS3, Bravia TVs and Blu-Ray players.

"[A launch] earlier in the year would be preferable," Hirai told Business Week in an interview after the announcement.

In the same press conference, Sony discussed its vision for PS3’s 3D future – echoing comments from CEO Howard Stringer earlier this year.

Elsewhere, Reuters reports Hirai said he is confident sales of PS3 hitting Sony’s official sales target of 13 million units in the year ending March 2010.
