Sony names PS3 launch titles, unveils net details

The games line-up features three first-party titles: Resistance: Fall of Man, Genji: Days Of The Blade and NBA 07. A fourth Sony title, Untold Legends: Dark Kingdom, will be released on the publisher’s Online Entertainment label.

Major third-party games include: Fight Night 3, Madden NFL 07, Need For Speed: Carbon and Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07 from EA; Marvel: Ultimate Alliance, Tony Hawk’s Project 8 and Call Of Duty 3 from Activision; Blazing Angels: Squadron of WWII and Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Vegas from Ubisoft; and Full Auto 2: Battlelines and Sonic The Hedgehog from Sega.

Other notable releases come from Bethesda Softworks (Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion), Namco (Ridge Racer 7) and Vivendi (F.E.A.R).

Sony has also confirmed that the console’s online service, The PlayStation Network, will let gamers play on a system similar to Microsoft’s Xbox Live!, as well as chat, download content, browse the net and store images, music and video.

The network will be free for online play or communication, but users must pay in order to get downloadable extras. The navigation system is based on that used on PSP, and has a Friends area in which users manage online play.

The PS3 is due to launch on November 11th in Japan, November 17th in the US and next March in Europe.
