Sony rejects PS3 porn deal

One of the world’s largest pornography companies has revealed that it held talks with Sony over the possibility of setting up a HD porn streaming and download service on PSN.

However, Vivid Video founder and co-chairman Steven Hirsh told CVG that discussions concerning the creation of an age-locked VOD service to compliment its existing movie and TV selection “didn’t lead anywhere”.

Vivid is still keen on the idea of a console-based porn business, though, adding that “if we could get further than we did with Sony on Xbox 360, we'd be very interested”.

Hirsch went on to explain that the adult entertainment sector remains sceptical of the drive towards 3D TV sets, favouring instead the growing market for internet-connected sets.

“At this point, there is very little 3D content around and we think there is a problem with consumers needing to use glasses each time they watch,” he stated. “On the other hand, Smart TV is clearly on its way and it would make sense for the 3D people to get together with the Smart TV people to produce one device with full capabilities.

“If consumers are given a choice of either 3DTV or Smart TV, their indecision about which technology to select could stall progress.”
