Sony reveals its own digital summer promotion

The PS3 version of the PlayStation Store is to receive a promotional summer offer that’s very much in the vein of Microsoft’s established and successful Summer of Arcade promotion.

Called PlayStation Network Play, it kicks off on August 24th with the release of classic 2D shooter Street Fighter III: Third Strike Online Edition. This is followed by Deathspank: The Baconing (August 31st), 2D platformer Bloodrayne: Betrayal (September 7th) and Renegade Ops (September 14th).

Any consumer who snap up all four titles will get a fifth for free – co-op focused FPS PayDay: The Heist. That will be released on October 5th.

All of the titles will also include a free piece of DLC. There’s also the chance to pre-order the games ahead of release. Doing so unlocks a free PS3 theme.

The deal is more or less a direct copy of the Xbox 360 Summer of Arcade promotion, which offers four games (From Dust, Bastion, Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet and Fruit Ninja Kinect) and a fifth free title (Crimson Alliance) for those who buy all four.
