The exclusive long-term licensing agreement, signed with Warner Bros Interactive Entertainment, will see SOE develop a massively multiplayer online title based on the DC Comics universe, for PC and next generation consoles, schedule for a Q4 2007 release.
The Matrix Online, which released earlier in the year, is published by Sega, which will retain control over sales and distribution, a statement from the publisher clarifying: “SOE will take over back-end operations and community of The Matrix Online, including live support, customer service and development.”
“SOE will work closely with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and DC Comics to maintain the authenticity consumers demand from the DC Comics franchises,” commented SOE president John Smedley.
“We will also take steps to continue the same high level of service that subscribers have come to expect from The Matrix Online game.”
“Because of our compelling work in developing and launching The Matrix Online we can now move it over to the leaders in the MMO space, SOE," added Warner Interactive chief Jason Hall.
