Sony swoops in to rescue stranded Blockbuster PS4 customers

Customers that pre-ordered their PS4 from struggling retailer Blockbuster will have their order protected, MCV can reveal.

Sony has struck a deal with the troubled entertainment specialist, which fell into administration for the second time last week.

Gamers that want a refund for their console can receive one by going in to their store. But if they don’t want to lose their place for a PS4, they can transfer their pre-order to another supplier who can guarantee launch day stock.

Sony would not confirm who that supplier is, but MCV understands it is Argos that will supply the console to customers.

To transfer their PS4 pre-orders, customers will have to put their details into a web page created for them.

Eurogamer reports that the same deal is being presented for Xbox One pre-orders.

Blockbuster fell into administration for a second time last week. The rental giant was rescued by private equity firm Gordon Brothers in March, but the company has struggled to turn the chain around.
