Sony to acquire SN Systems

July 22nd by Ben Parfitt

Leading UK programming firm SN Systems looks set to be bought by Sony, the Japanese arm of the firm has announced.

SN Systems is known primarily for its ProDG range, consisting of compilers, linkers and debuggers for game development. Several PS2 developers have chosen to use the systems in the past so the acquisition is a logical step for both firms.

“It’s a great pleasure to have SN Systems on board,” commented Sony’s Masa Chatani. “For more than10 years it has pioneered the development of great tools for PlayStation creation.”

Some are claiming the move is designed at least in part to offer developers an alternative to the XNA programming systems Microsoft is utilising in the development of Xbox 360 software.
