Sony unveils PlayStation certified, Ericsson-free phone

The latest smartphone to be officially PlayStation Certified has been unveiled by Sony.

The Xperia S is the first Sony handset to carry only the Sony logo following the company’s buyout of former partner Ericsson.

The handset boasts an impressive 4.3-inch 720p Reality Display, a 1.5GHz dual-core processor and a 12-megapixel camera. Android 2.3 will be installed out of the box with an upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich due out later in the year.

Both black and white models will be available at launch.

Obviously the device lacks the physical controls of the Xperia Play, but will still offer the same catalogue of games adapted to be used with touch screen controls.
