Sony US PR man quits

SCEA’s director of corporate communications David Karraker has left the company after only a year in the role.

Next-gen reports that the news was broken in an e-mail from Karraker, in which he said that the decision to leave Sony was “very difficult.”

The news comes one year to the day that SCEA announced Karraker would be taking over from ex-PR boss Molly Smith.

Karraker will officially leave SCEA officially on September 7th. No announcement of a replacement has been made.

He will take up the post of head of PR and events for Skyy Spirits on October 1st, returning to the drinks industry, which he worked in before joining Sony.

“I am saddened to leave such a great group of people, but I have been presented a global opportunity near my home in an industry where I have previous experience that I feel I must pursue,” he said in an e-mail to Next-Gen.

“It has been a wild ride and an incredibly enriching experience. I have enjoyed immensely my tenure at SCEA and think the company and its brands are very well positioned to have an exceptional holiday and a very bright future.  I look forward to continuing to follow this industry as a gamer, rather than a spokesperson.”
