It looks as if the rumours are true – not content with having unveiled both a dedicated handheld (the NGP) and a PlayStation branded mobile phone (the Xperia Play) Sony is now working on a gaming tablet.
Currently being referred to by its codename of 'S1', Engadget reports that the machine is fully PlayStation certified, meaning that it will be compatible with a host of PSone titles. In fact, it's said that the tablet will come pre-loaded with anything up to 100 of them.
It runs Android 3.0 and boasts a 9.4 inch capacitive touch screen with a resolution of 1,280x800 pixels and will use a bespoke interface currently being worked on by the Sony Vaio team.
A large emphasis is being placed on Sony's multimedia delivery platform Qriocity. Engadget also claims to have word that it will feature an IR transmitter so users can use it to control other devices such as Sony Bravia TVs.
The site also has what it claims is a price and launch date – $599 this September.
