PS3 owners are facing the very real possibility of missing out completely DLC release Dawnguard.

The download has been available for Xbox 360 for some weeks and arrived on PC a few days ago. It is the first DLC for the game and sees players taking on a vampire Lord of sorts.

However, Bethesda admitted recently that it was having technical issues porting the content PS3, resulting in the possibility of the cancellation of its release.

"We have tried a number of things, but none of them solve the issue enough to make Dawnguard good for everyone,” it claimed. “The PS3 is a powerful system, and we're working hard to deliver the content you guys want. This is not a problem we’re positive we can solve. We understand the frustration when the same content is not available on all platforms.”

Now Sony has come out and said that it is actively working with the studio to try and help it over the finishing line.

"We work with all of our partners to try and solve their problems,” Sony VP Adam Boyes told Kotaku. "We have a big, broad dev support team that works closely with Bethesda—and with all of our partners—to work with them to solve that any sort of issues they have along the way.

"Of course, I always want everything to work always for everyone. I can't promise any kind of resolution or timeline but can say that everyone involved is trying their best to get this stuff working."

Compounding the problems is the fact that the PS3 version of Skyrim has previously been beset by tech troubles that left the SKU trailing behind the Xbox 360 and PC SKUs in performance terms.

Many PS3 Skyrim players reported a gradual dip in performance over time, with large save files leading to single-figure framerates and virtually unplayable sections.
