Yesterday, the Spike TV Video Game Awards (VGAs) handed out their annual trophies and came with a string of announcements.
The announcement of The Last of Us last week was backed up at the show by a trailer reveal of a new post-apocalyptic game along a similar vein to I Am Legend by developer Naughty Dog (Uncharted).
Metal Gear Solid's new hack-n-slash entry was given an official subtitle in a chaotically manic trailer, and will henceforth be known as Revengeance.
New trailers arose for Bioshock Infinite and Mass Effect 3, while announcement trailers also landed for Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD (a re-make of the very first title) and Alan Wake: American Nightmare.
On the awards tip, Portal 2 took a healthy number of awards, as did Batman: Arkham City and The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, but it was The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim which took Game of the Year (and Bethesda took Studio of the Year to back that up).
No Australian / New Zealand developed games took any awards this year, although Bioshock Infinite (from 2K Boston and 2K Australia) was nominated for Most Anticipated Game (the award went to Mass Effect 3), Jetpack Joyride (Halfbrick) was nominated in the Best Mobile and Handheld Game category (which went to Super Mario 3D Land), and L.A. Noire (from the now defunct Team Bondi) was nominated for Best Graphics (which went to Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception).
