Square Enix CEO and president Mike Fischer has left Square Enix of America for a job with Amazon.
Polygon reports Fischer quit the company earlier this month, and is now the vice president of digital music and video for Amazon in Japan.
Fischer worked at Namco, Sega and Microsoft before taking over as president of Square Enix of America in July 2010.
He declined to discuss details on his exit or the current state of the publisher, but did mention that he left on good terms.
A Square Enix rep later confirmed Fischer’s departure, adding that "any rumors about shutting down North American or US operations are not accurate."
The firm also announced that Phil Rogers, CEO of Square Enix in Europe, will take over in Fischer’s absence – adding the job of President and CEO of Square Enix America to his current duties.
