Square 'respects' GameStop's OnLive voucher removal

Far from angering the publisher, GameStop’s decision to remove OnLive vouchers from the PC version of Deus Ex: Human Revolution has been met with understanding from the game’s publisher Square Enix.

The retailer last night admitted that it ordered staff to open every unit of the PC SKU and remove a code Square had included that entitled buyers to free access to the title on streaming service OnLive.

But far from reacting badly to the decision, Square Enix has issued an apologetic statement.

"As part of Deus Ex: Human Revolution's boxed offering on PC, Square Enix included a third party coupon," a spokesperson told Kotaku.

"GameStop was not made aware of this inclusion and Square Enix respects the right of GameStop to have final say over the contents of products it sells and to adjust them where they see fit in accordance with their policies."
