Star Citizen becomes the most successful crowdfunding project ever

Wing Commander creator Chris Roberts’ in-development space sim has claimed a world record.

Space trading and combat sim Star Citizen has now raised over $10.6m dollars via crowdfunding, becoming the most successful ever project created via the model.

Of this $2.134m was raised on Kickstarter and the rest on Roberts’ own website.

Over the weekend Star Citizen backers officially passed the $10,266,844 pledged to Pebble Watch, making Star Citizen the number one crowd funded project of all time,” a statement from Roberts Space Industries reads. That’s a record you should be proud of. But we’re just getting started!”

The previous record-holder was the Pebble E-Paper watch which raised $10.27m on Kickstarter.
