Star Wars: The Old Republic dated for Australia

EA has confirmed that Star Wars: The Old Republic will be releasing 1st March in ANZ, Hong Kong and Singapore.

The game has been out in North America and Europe since 20th December last year, leaving many Australian and New Zealand consumers with the option of waiting for a release date, which until today was elusive, or importing a copy and playing on US servers.

The press release from EA also confirmed that SWTOR will receive locally based servers. This was, of course, to be expected with a local release, however will come as welcome news to existing local players.

Playing on US servers can massively increase latency and create a less-than-optimum playing experience, which is presumably what EA were inclined to avoid by delaying the release here.

While it is perfectly understandable that any developer would want to create the best online playing environment possible for its game, the decision to delay the game here has undoubtedly caused a massive increase in grey imports from those dedicated fans who couldn’t bear the wait, even resulting in EB Games importing copies on local consumers’ behalf on an ad hoc basis.

Star Wars: The Old Republic will be available on PC for AUD$79.95, with an Origin exclusive special edition coming for AUD$89.95.
