Steam tops 9m concurrent users

Steam has once again bested its concurrent user record, surpassing 9m active accounts for a stretch during the past weekend.

VG247 reports Valve’s digital platform peaked at 9.06m concurrent users around midday Sunday, Pacific Daylight Time. The figure dethrones the previous best of 8.51m users logged at the beginning of the year.

In terms of individual product performance during the record-breaking run, Dota 2, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and recent release Cities: Skylines helped drive numbers to the new high.

Despite the consistent growth in player numbers – with total accounts at more than 125m as of last month – Valve recently admitted the company has left a lot to be desired in terms of communicating with its user base. That said, the firm arguably stole the show at GDC earlier this month between their VR and Steam Machine reveals.
