Take 2 to acquire Empire?

Empire announced to the City last month that it was “in discussion with a number of parties which may or may not lead to an offer being made for the company” (MCV 10/2). VU Games and Red Octane were tipped as suitors, with industry watchers at the time claiming that bids around $8 million were already on the table.

Those offers are believed to have been withdrawn now, though. But US sources are now suggesting that Take 2 is about to acquire the UK publisher, which has been best known of late for its Xplosiv range of budget games.

Take 2 already has a strong relationship with Empire, having handled its products in the US for some time.

A spokesperson for Take 2 predictably offered: “We do not comment on rumour.”
