Techland working on Dead Island spinoff ‘Project Hell’

Techland, the studio responsible for Dead Island, has announced a new game currently entitled Project Hell.

The company’s blog explains over several posts that the title is a spinoff of Dead Island originating as an ‘internal weapon mod’ made by a Techland staffer. Thoughts of DayZ immediately sweep in.

The game is further explained as a first-person hack and slash game taking place in a dark fantasy setting, with the studio adding that the mod turned standalone provides ‘proof that chopping monsters frozen by magic spells using two-handed swords is brutally fun and addictive.’

Our main goal is to make a game we can all enjoy playing so don’t expect unicorns and fairies – we prefer breaking through hordes of undead minions only to slaughter their devilish and loathsome masters in a bloody boss-fight.”

Well I should say so. Though unless those magical creatures are undead, I presume most wouldn’t expect them running about in a Techland title.

No other relevant info was mentioned regarding Project Hell beyond the fact that the company has a small team working full-time on it.
