The Darkness II announced

2K Games has announced it will release the follow-up to The Darkness later this year.

The Darkness II is currently in production for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC and is due to arrive this Autumn. It follows on from the million unit-selling 2007 title, which is based on a supernatural horror comic book series.

Interestingly, the game is not being developed by the original’s developer Starbreeze Studios. Instead, it is being handled by Digital Extreme, which is perhaps best known for its work on Dark Sector and the multiplayer portion of last year’s BioShock 2.

The Darkness II is a well of dark and imaginative violence, and it’s a stylized and beautiful nightmare,” said 2K president Christoph Hartmann. The Darkness II continues the 2K Games tradition of delivering quality, innovative games that are filled to the brim with atmosphere and deep storytelling.

The game takes a unique stance on fighting in the dark versus light. Combined with the arsenal of weapons at players disposal and the gruesome attacks of the supernatural Demon Arms and Darkness powers, we’re proud to announce another title that dlievers on our core values of creating games for gamers.”
