The Gear VR app has been disabled on the Samsung Galaxy Note 7

Oculus has dropped support for the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 with its Gear VR platform.

Anyone who now tries to download the Gear VR app when on a Note 7 will be met with a message explaining that the app is not available due to safety concerns.

Customer safety is Oculus’ top priority,” reads the message. Oculus is removing support for all Note7 devices on the Oculus platform. Until further notice, Note7 devices will not be compatible with the Gear VR. For more information regarding the Note7 please contact Samsung directly.”

The news comes as Samsung has halted production of its flagship handset and has told all users to power down.

This move is clearly for the best due to the chance that the Note 7 could explode just inches from your eyes, and in a confined space, when using the Gear VR.

Samsung has said anyone with a Note 7 should head to the retailer they purchased it from and get a refund. Once you have done that, and if you are still in the market for a mobile VR experience, it might be worth checking out Google’s new Pixel phone and Daydream View VR offering.
