The next Magic: The Gathering game will be free-to-play

Wizards of the Coast is to make the next instalment in its Magic: The Gathering series free-to-play.

Magic Duels: Origins boasts a number of new features such as integrated deck construction assistance, an endless single player mode, some new multiplayer modes, a community Quest system and an enhanced tutorial system.

The studio also promises that all content will be earnable in-game for those not wishing to pay out.

"This upcoming release is unlike anything we’ve ever done," lead designer Drew Nolosco said. "Players will experience the origin stories of our five most iconic Planeswalkers through immersive gameplay.

We’ve also listened to our players. Two-Headed Giant is back! Taking it a step further, everything is earnable, making the game truly free-to-play. Magic Duels is the perfect way to start your journey into the world’s best strategy game."

The game is due out on PS4, Xbox One, iPad and PC later this year.
