THQ rumoured to be making redundancies in Oz/Japan

A source has told MCV that THQ are making redundancies to their Australian team, while Kotaku is reporting similar in Japan.

Earlier today, a source contacted MCV with the news that the Australian THQ offices were being hit with redundancies.

Kotaku has also reportedly received similar news, which states that there have been 14 redundancies made to the THQ Asia Pacific office in Melbourne, that THQ Japan was set to close, but that THQ’s internal development studios are not being affected by the changes.

MCV has contacted THQ for a on the matter, but with no immediate official word, it looks likely to be cleared up on 2nd February at 2.30pm (US Pacific Time) when the company issues is earnings statement and offers company outlook for the next quarter.

The news comes shortly after a recent spate of speculation regarding a sale of the company, although until the 2nd it is unlikely that it will become clear whether these moves are in line with those rumours or whether it is simply a part of THQ’s existing ongoing restructures towards profitability.

The redundancies should still be considered a rumour at this stage.
