Tom Clancy passes away aged 66

One of modern gaming’s most familiar names has passed away.

Tom Clancy, who became known to gamers after lending his name to dozens of military video games, has died at the age of 66.

Clancy was of course best known to the wider world as an author of military fiction. His first published work is the now famous The Hunt for Red October. Other books to his name include Patriot Games and Clear and Present Danger.

His first video game association was with Red Storm’s 1998 shooter Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six although his name was also used to promote the Ghost Recon, Splinter Cell, EndWar and HAWX brands.

In total the Tom Clancy name has appeared on over 40 separate video games, the majority of which were published by Ubisoft.

Tom Clancy’s The Division is due out on next-gen consoles next year.
