Top 100 Women in Games: Catherine Woolley

Joining twin sister Charlotte in this list, Catherine credits Charlotte with giving her the nudge to study games design at the University of Wales in Newport.

Graduating in 2009, Catherine moved to Aldershot to boost her chances of getting a job in games.

It worked, and just under a month later she started her first job at EA creating a series of interactive books for the Nintendo DS called Flips.

After this she transitioned to a role on the Harry Potter team, finishing off the final two games before she started another new exciting role at Creative Assembly on Alien: Isolation.

With a massive range of work, from her projects at EA to 48-hour creations from various game jam events, Catherine says she is most proud of her latest title – Alien: Isolation.

With three years of her life invested in the title – from helping out with game mechanics, crafting levels from the ground up in the main game and then also helping out with making the DLC after everyone had finished up – Catherine says it’s a relief.

Promoted to senior designer last year at Creative Assembly, Catherine hopes to remain hands-on, carefully moulding game experiences for players.
