The latest Transformers cartoon series is to receive an accompanying video game from Activision.

Transformers Prime will be released for Wii, 3DS and DS at some point “later this year”.

The associated cartoon series first hit US screens last year and debuted in the UK on Cartoon Network last month. It features a recognisable cast that includes Optimus Prime, Megatron, Ratchet, Bumblebee, Arcee, Starscream and Soundwave – all boasting a brand new look.

There are plenty of new characters introduced too.

"Hasbro Studios has done a phenomenal job with the Transformers Prime television show," Activision publishing’s executive VP David Oxford stated.

“We are collaborating closely with the series creators to capture all the adventure, humor and friendships from the show to create an authentic action experience for Transformers fans of all ages to enjoy."

Hasbro’s senior VP of digital media and marketing Mark Blecher added: "Hasbro is thrilled to be working with Activision again on an exciting new Transformers video game.

"The Transformers Prime animated series has resonated strongly with kids and fans and we're looking forward to delivering this new way to experience the adventure."
