Ubisoft announces Rainbow 6: Patriots

As has been rumoured, publisher Ubisoft has officially announced a brand new Tom Clancy title – Rainbow 6: Patriots.

The title is being developed by Ubisoft Montreal, though it is also being supported by Ubisoft Toronto and Ubisoft Red Storm. It will be released on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC in 2013.

Note, too, that it’s no longer ‘Rainbow Six’, as previous entries have been called. It’s now ‘Rainbow 6′.

The game promises a dynamic single-player storyline that captures the reality of modern-day terrorism and allows players to experience it from multiple characters’ perspectives”.

The narrative sees players squaring off against a revolutionary group called the True Patriots who seek to reclaim America from the political and corporate hierarchy.

Players will need to make a number of tough ethical decisions” as they attempt to tackle the threat.

Co-op and multiplayer modes are also included

Terrorism has evolved, and so has Rainbow 6,” Ubisoft’s creative director David Sears stated. In Tom Clancy’s Rainbow 6 Patriots, all the team play, tactics, and realism that fans of the series love have been coupled with an exciting new narrative direction.

This adds an unprecedented level of humanity that will make Tom Clancy’s Rainbow 6 Patriots an extremely tense and immersive experience.”

To date the Rainbow 6 series has sold over 25m copies, the most recent release of which was Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 in 2008. The first Rainbow Six games was released in 1998 on PC.

Ubisoft has another Tom Clancy title in the works, too, with Ghost Recon: Future Soldier due out on March 6th 2011. A new Splinter Cell game is also in production.

Rainbow 6 is already available to pre-order on the Ubisoft online store.
