Ubisoft becomes No.2 UK publisher

Ubisoft has become the No.2 publisher in UK and Europe as it announced game sales almost doubled year-on-year.

The publisher now has a 9.5 per cent share of the games market in Europe and 11 per cent in the UK. Comparatively, in the US Ubisoft is No.4 publisher with a six per cent market share.

In its first fiscal quarter ending June 30th this year the publisher announced total sales of EURO 161m – an increase of 94 per cent compared to the year before. Success was attributed to Splinter Cell: Conviction which sold 1.9m units, and sustained sales of Just Dance, Assassin’s Creed 2 and Avatar.

Seconf quarter sales are expected to come in at around EURO 83m.

Ubisoft also reaffirmed its forecast for its full 2010-11 fiscal year. A statement read: “We forecast an expected return to profitable growth and positive cash flow from operating activities.”

It says key games this year will be Tom Clancy’s HAWX 2, Ruse and PlayStation Move’s Racquet Sports.
