Ubisoft half-year financial results show revenue increase

Ubisoft has reported its half-year financial results, posting sales revenue of €293m for the period.

The figure represents a five per cent year-over-year increase, with Q2 sales specifically showing an increase of 46.6 per cent and exceeding Ubisoft’s own expectations by €17m. Digital sales saw significant growth as well, up 29 per cent to €71m for the most recent quarter.

Along with the sales increase of downloadable goods, Ubisoft also attributes the positive results to solid back catalogue sales of Far Cry 3 and Assassin's Creed III.

Despite the increase in gross sales, a €42.1m rise in research and development actually resulted in a net loss of €62.1m – a situation Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot believes will be remedied with the arrival of Sony and Microsoft’s next-gen consoles.

"The PS4 and Xbox One will be released in a few days' time and will be a new driving force for the industry," he stated in the report.

"We are confident in our capacity to rise to the short-term challenges posed by the transition phase, thanks to the very high quality of our games, which, combined with the upcoming arrival of the next-generation consoles and the traditional ramp-up of sales during the Christmas season will trigger positive momentum towards the end of the year.”
