UK CHART: Force Unleashed hits No.1

Electronic Arts’ recent dominance of the official UK Chart has come to an end – as LucasArts’ Star Wars: The Force Unleashed crashes straight into top spot.

In the biggest ever release week for a Star Wars game, 48 per cent of sales were on Xbox 360, with 30 per cent on PS3, making it the tenth fastest-selling title ever for each format.

The Wii version accounted for 15 per cent of sales with the remainder on PS2, PSP and DS – leaving it the biggest all-formats launch since GTA IV.

Elsewhere in the ChartTrack/ELSPA Top 40, it is a good week for Nintendo, with Wii Fit jumping three places to No.2 – dislodging EA’s Tiger Woods’ PGA Tour 09, which drops to No.5.

Last week’s No.1, EA’s Mercenaries 2: World In Flames, tumbles from the summit, down to sixth position.

Better news for EA comes from its PC-only release Warhammer Online: Age Of Reckoning, which jumps straight into fourth place. However, the firm’s Spore falls from No.30 to No.10 in just its second week.

Nintendo’s success continues as Mario Kart Wii bounds up from No.6 to No.3 and Wii Play moves up from No.7 to No.10.
