UK CHARTS: Modern Warfare 2 marches to No.1

There was never any question, but this morning’s All Formats weekly games chart confirms that Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is the best-selling game of the week.

The title also took the No.1 spot in the PS3 and Xbox 360 charts. You can read the full ELSPA/GfK-ChartTrack weekly rankings in MCV's Retail Biz digest (out today) – which you can also browse online.

Activision’s record-breaking shooter secured its victory by selling a whopping 1.78 million units in the UK over its first five days on sale, generating £67.4 million. The Xbox 360 version alone shifted more than 1 million units during the first week.

The title has now grossed almost twice as much as the entire entertainment software market last week, according to Chart-Track. Even a 45 per cent rise in sales for Nintendo’s Wii Sports Resort didn’t even come close to Modern Warfare’s momentous launch.

Elsewhere in the chart, Wii Fit Plus falls from No.1 to No.4 after 24 per cent drop in sales, while FIFA 10 slips to No.3. Strong Xbox 360 bundle sales saw LEGO Batman and Pure re-enter the Top 10.

The Top 10 is as follows:

1. Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
2. Wii Sports Resort
3. FIFA 10
4. Wii Fit Plus
5. Forza Motorsport
6. Mario & Sonic At Olympic Winter Games
7. LEGO Batman: The Video Game
8. Mario Kart Wii
9. Pure
10. Grand Theft Auto: Episodes From Liberty City
